Thomas To Visit: Linebacker Zach Thomas, released
by the Miami Dolphins, will visit the Saints this week.
The Saints are facing the decision to re-sign Marc Simoneau,
their starting linebacker for the past two years who has been
unspectacular.
Thomas will visit the Saints before the NFL Combine in Indianapolis,
which starts February 20.
The former Texas Tech product finished his 12th season in the
NFL, all with the Dolphins. He played in only five games in 2007,
despite missing only 13 games in the previous eleven season, all
as a starter for the Dolphins. Thomas missed time because of concussions
last season, placed on injured reserve because of migraines and
concussions because of an October 21 car crash that was not Thomas'
fault.
Thomas, 5'11, 228, who will be 35 on September 1, has 19.5 career
sacks, 17 career interceptions, four touchdowns and 168 career
starts. He has been named to the Pro Bowl seven times, as recently
as 2006.
A native of Pampa, TX, Thomas is also expected to meet with the
Cowboys. He has said he is not considering retirement.
Meanwhile, Simoneau's agent has been contacted by the Dolphins.
No Importation: The Saints have not chosen to
sign CFL quarterback Kerry Joseph or CFL offensive lineman Dan
Goodspeed, both of whom worked out for the Saints in recent weeks.
Joseph, 34, took Saskatchewan to the Grey Cup title in 2007 and
is a native of Louisiana.
Spygate Hits New Orleans: The latest turn in
the Patriots Spygate scandal has landed in New Orleans. Three
lawyers, a ticket broker and a former Rams player in the Super
Bowl have filed suit against the Patriots, asking for refunds
on behalf of everyone who paid to attend Super Bowl XXXVI in New
Orleans.
The plaintiffs are pursuing class action status and are civilly
pursuing allegations against the Patriots of fraud, racketeering,
breach of contract, and violations of Louisiana statutes.
The allegations stem from reports that the Patriots, in addition
to videotaping their 2007 season opener against the Jets for which
they were fined and penalized a first round pick, had been illegally
videotaping walkthroughs and defensive signals back for seven
seasons.
Grant OK: Saints DE Charles Grant, wounded by
a broken bottle in a deadly night club fight two weeks ago, reported
he was fine and he walked the red carpet in New Orleans at Shaquille
O'Neal and Reggie Bush's NBA All-Star event charity party.
A pregnant woman, an innocent bystander died in the fight, and
Grant expressed his sorrow in a recent interview. Grant was not
charged.
