NFL NOTES:
It has been almost 35 years since an NFL team has made it back
to the Super Bowl and won the game after losing in the Super Bowl
the previous year... as the Dallas Cowboys lost the 1971 Super
Bowl (16-13 to Baltimore) and then returned to win the Super Bowl
in 1972 by defeating Miami 24-3... the last team to lose in the
Super Bowl and return to the "Big Game" period was the
Buffalo Bills in 1994, as they had played the previous year against
Dallas, as well... also, while New England has dominated Super

the Super Bowl the previous year... as the Dallas Cowboys lost
the 1971 Super Bowl (16-13 to Baltimore) and then returned to
win the Super Bowl in 1972 by defeating Miami 24-3... the last
team to lose in the Super Bowl and return to the "Big Game"
period was the Buffalo Bills in 1994, as they had played the previous
year against Dallas, as well... also, while New England has dominated
Super Bowl appearances for the AFC (FOUR) in the past ten years
(1996), the NFC has seen eight different teams reach the final
game with Green Bay and St. Louis each making it twice... since
the restructuring of divisions (2002), the NFC North, AFC North
and AFC South have not had a representative in the Super Bowl.
There were a total of 18 running backs who gained 1,000-or-more
yards last season, while there was a total of 23 wide receivers
and one tight end who gained 1,000-or-more yards last year.
Only eight of 32 NFL teams had winning records, 5-3 or better,
on the road last season, six of those eight qualified for the
playoffs, as only Jacksonville (5-3) and New Orleans (5-3) failed
to reach the post-season.
Eight of the Ten teams that finished among the league's top rushing
offenses in 2004 qualified for the playoffs, as only Baltimore
and Kansas City failed to reach the post-season... However, in
contrast, the bottom ten teams in terms of rushing offense last
season, include Cleveland (#23), Chicago (#25), Tampa Bay (#29),
San Francisco (#30) and Miami (#31)... all of whom are picking
between picks #1 overall and #5 in the first round.
Cleveland Browns traded defensive end EBENEZER EKUBAN to the
Denver Broncos for running back REUBEN DROUGHNS... it gives them
more DL depth, while giving the Browns a possible starting running
back, who they hope to ink to a new long-term deal... it also
gives the Broncos 3/4 of the Browns former starting defensive
line (Ekuban, Warren and Brown), so they must be giving DL coach
Andre Patterson some imput on who he wants to coach.
The signing of Courtney Brown by the Denver Broncos should now
pave the way for free agent defensive end MARQUES DOUGLAS (Baltimore)
to be signed over the next few weeks with Cleveland leading the
pack, but several of the teams contending for Brown's services
could now look Douglas' way.

Former FLORIDA STATE (March 29th) quarterback ADRIAN MCPHERSON

the wind and 4.53/4.56 against the wind... 6.78 three-cone...
40.5" vertical... stayed with his results in the short shuttle,
broad jump and bench press... weighed in at 6031, 211 pounds...
had the most impressive physique of any of the QB's available...
threw between 60-65 passes... an out route to the left hand side
was the first missed ball... he also over through a few corner
routes... finished with his toes on opposite 40-yard line and
threw it, just pivot and arm, into the endzone measured at roughly
72 yards... also on a play action 7-step drop he came out diagonally
to the right and then threw it backside 65-70 yards straight down
the sideline to the opposite hash... threw a few of his slants
behind the receiver instead of leading him... very good footwork
on his 3 and 5-step drops... good, quick release and showed impressive
velocity on his throws... release was a little slower on the 7-step
drops, but threw a very impressive deep ball (outs/comebacks)...
Saints quarterback coach Turk Schonert asked him to throw several
deep balls with more touch/precision than velocity, saying "(I)
know you can throw the laser, (I) want to see you throw the deep
out and with touch"... "(He) has "Franchise"
quarterback physical tools... now it's all about watching as much
of the game film we have on him and seeing how the draft plays
out", explained another NFL evaluator after the workout...
all results were recorded on an outdoor grass field (Southeast
HS), which was described as a good running surface, and he was
wearing football cleats... has private visits setup with Baltimore
and St. Louis, plus a private workout with St. Louis, as well,
Tampa Bay was not in attendance today, but plans to hold a private
workout of their own... Jacksonville, Miami, NY Giants, New Orleans

left hamstring on his second run... was not able to complete the

in at 6017, 254 pounds... senior safety JAMAAL BRIMMER ran between
4.68 and 4.75 in the 40... 34.5" vertical... weighed in at
6013, 216 pounds... also did positional drills... but has seemingly
seen that he might have to continue to bulk up and try being OLB/special
teams guy... all times were recorded on an outdoor track surface,
but also had the 40-yard dash ending almost onto a cement strip.
TULSA (March 28th) senior quarterback JAMES KILIAN ran between
4.88 and 5.00 in the 40... 4.22 short shuttle... 6.72/6.80 three-cone...

34.5" vertical... 10'4" broad jump... weighed in at
6006, 180 pounds... all times were recorded on an outdoor turf
surface with very windy conditions, so the players times varied
greatly with-and-against the wind.
MCMASTER, CAN (March 28th) senior running back JESSE LUMSDEN
ran in the 4.5 range in the 40... while also doing a number of
other workout and positional drills for scouts at a private workout

have received long looks in recent years, including defensive
lineman Israel Idonije (Chicago), offensive lineman Steve Morley
(Green Bay), as well as Simon Fraser defensive lineman Doug Brown
(Washington) and Western Ontario running back Tim Tindale (Buffalo),
as well as several others that spent time in training camps like
Mark Nohra and Don Blair.

Randolph-Macon (2003), Gettysburg (2004) and Bridgewater (2004)...
won a number of post-season awards, including Division II/III
Player of the Year in the state of Virginia... worth a look as
a short-yardage and red-zone type back... bruiser-type kid with
not a lot of wiggle, but runs with bad intentions... his results
were recorded as part of the Pro Day held at Virginia Tech.
VIRGINIA TECH (March 25th) senior cornerback ERIC GREEN did not
run the 40yard dash, which surprised a number of people in attendance...
4.42 short shuttle... 6.68 three-cone... 10'2" broad jump...
weighed in at 5113, 195 pounds... senior defensive back VINCENT
FULLER ran between 4.42 and 4.48 in the 40... 3.80/3.82 short
shuttle... 6.48/6.55 three-cone... weighed in at 6007, 187 pounds...
being evaluated as both a free safety and cornerback by teams
that use more of a zone than man scheme... lacks the ideal size/bulk
for FS, as he is not the strongest of tacklers in the open field...
workout results show that he is fully healthy... senior offensive
lineman JON DUNN ran between 5.48 and 5.52 in the 40... 4.48 short

that was soft and soaked by rain from the previous day and morning.
