It's been a difficult situation all offseason long.
The team's most popular player and the heart of its runningback
has two fresh knee surgeries and a large contract looming. Deuce
McAllister, lost in week three of last season, is rehabbing his
second major knee injury in three years and is also recuperating
from surgery to continue treatment on the first.
The two sides already delayed
the decision by one month when they pushed back a March 15
signing bonus. And on the eve of that new deadline, and despite
McAllister being out of the country on vacation, the runningback's
contract has been restructured, according to McAllister's side.
The new contract likely means that McAllister will remain with
the Saints in 2008 despite his injuries. Details of the new contact,
which likely converts future monies to performance-based conditions,
are not yet available. The NFL Network reported that Deuce's
2005 contract has been restructured.
