All rookies, including those that will be officially announced
in the next day or two, will report to minicamp this weekend.
The Saints will officially announce their signings this week.
New Orleans Pro Football.com has learned the following about undrafted
free agents:
FB Issa Banna, Northwestern State
6'0", 248
Classic small-school blocking fullback the Saints like to sign
for training camp use only. Also did the shotput. John Murphy
of Next Level Scouting at Banna's March 18 Pro Day workout:
"Senior fullback ISSA BANNA ran between 4.92 and 5.00 in the 40...
4.33 short shuttle... 7.35 three-cone... 34.5" vertical... 8'9"
broad jump and also did 21 reps of 225 pounds... weighed in at
5107, 234 pounds... has improved his straight-line speed some
since last spring... but is a better athlete than his (lack of
) straight-line speed would indicate... won't be offered much
of a chance to see the ball at the professional level... has some
ability as a lead blocker... "
WR Scott Beveridge, Peru State
Two-time All American and All-Academic NAIA and dominated
at miniscule Peru State in Nebraska. Played kicker, kick returner
and receiver for the Bobcats. A real hidden prospect. With 207
catches, he had 34 touchdowns for 3219 yards. That's over 15 yards
a catch and one touchdown every six catches.
CB Matt Clark, UCLA
5'9, 190
Did not run well this offseason after a good career include
All-Pac-10 honors. Two year starter for the Bruins.
RB Colt Colletti, Nicholls State
5'9", 215
Over 2000 career collegiate yards and a great offseason. John
Murphy of Next Level Scouting: "Senior running back COLT COLLETTI
posted some of the best workout numbers in his limited Pro Day
opportunities... ran at or below 4.50 both times along with 33
reps of 225 pounds... has a great attitude and approach to the
game... might be able to perform along the lines of former small
school standout Keith Elias, who spent time successfully in the
NFL with Indianapolis and NY Giants." John Murphy from Colletti's
March 18 Pro Day: "Senior running back COLT COLLETTI ran between
4.46 and 4.48 in the 40... 6.90 three-cone... 39.5" vertical...
also did 33 reps of 225 pounds, which is the most recorded/reported
by any running back to date... weighs in at 5092, 215 pounds...
three teams were in attendance for his workout, Dallas, Green
Bay and New Orleans." John Murphy at Colletti's March 8 Pro
Day workout: "Senior running back/fullback COLT COLLETTI ran
between 4.50 and 4.55 in the 40... he weighed in at 5096, 213
pounds... averaged 6.0 yards per carry, as a senior, gaining 546
yards on just 91 carries, including six touchdowns... he also
averaged 4.5 yards per carry, as a junior... played mostly fullback
and wingback, while playing in an option-style offensive scheme
in college... was a standout high school running back who never
really saw as much time with the ball in his hands, since he had
to share the backfield with several other players, including a
mobile quarterback for most of his college career... very well-built
for his size... terrific motor and willingness to be a team player...
capable of showing better hands out of the backfield than advertised...
more of a straight-line speed runner, but will lower his shoulder
and can gain extra yardage after contact... would shows the type
of attitude and demeanor to contribute on special teams..."
WR Tramissian Davis, Louisiana Tech
5'11, 186
For such a small guy, 16 reps of 225 is outstanding.
More quick than fast and a 38.5" vertical never hurt. Played
in a wide-open offense and never got more than 25 catches or three
touchdowns in a single season.
CB Dwight Ellick, Notre Dame
5'10, 182
Experienced but undersized cornerback. Next Level's
John Murphy: "Senior defensive back DWIGHT ELLICK
ran between 4.36 and 4.42 in the 40... 4.11 short shuttle... 6.92
three-cone... 36" vertical... 10'2" broad jump and also
did 17 reps of 225 pounds... weighed in at 5103, 182 pounds...
started most of the past two seasons at right corner, but failed
to show the timed speed he ran at the Pro Day on a consistent
basis... has good toughness for his size... more of a nickel/dime
type guy if he can improve his technique..."
WR/DB Keron Henry, Connecticut
6'1, 218
Former quarterback who was the Huskies' leading receiver may become
a possession-type receiver or safety in the NFL. Not sure where
the Saints intend on playing him. Good athlete and teammate of
third-round pick Alfred Fincher. Next Level's John Murphy from
his Pro Day workout: "Senior wide receiver KERON HENRY, a
former quarterback, who ran between 4.55 and 4.62 in the 40 at
his Pro Day (March 24th), has been getting evaluated for the most
part by teams as a wide receiver... with Minnesota paying close
attention to his progress... but there are a handful of teams
that are looking at him as more of an athlete with the potential
to see some time on defense, as a safety." John Murphy from
his March 24 Pro Day workout: "Senior wide receiver KERON
HENRY ran between 4.56 and 4.60 in the 40... 4.32 short shuttle...
7.48 three-cone... 34.5" vertical... 9'11" broad jump... weighed
in at 6013, 218 pounds... a former quarterback who has shown good
potential to become a possession-type receiver in the NFL... good
strength... should also do well as a blocker and on special teams...
"
FB Keith Joseph, Texas A&M
6'2, 250
Started for two seasons for the Aggies. Next
Level's John Murphy: "Senior fullback KEITH JOSEPH
ran between 4.65 and 4.67 in the 40... also did 29 reps of 225
pounds... he weighed in at 6021, 250 pounds. "
G Ikechuku Ndukwe, Northwestern
6'4, 330
Two year starter with a few injuries early in his career.
Very big and best in a power running game. The Saints always grab
a few run-focused guards in the undrafted market each year.
LS Louis-Phillip Ladouceur, Cal
Teams also have an emergency backup option at long snapper.
Kevin Houser is the Saints' long-snapper for years to come.
LB Russell Rabe, University of Minnesota-Duluth
6'2, 235
Pronounced Rob-ee. Earned the nickname "Big
Cat". Pursued by the Saints immediately after the draft ended.
Collegiate DE will move to LB in the NFL. Had 8 sacks, 17 tackles
for loss, an interception and a catch as a senior. Runs a 4.61-4.68
but plays faster, had an outstanding 36" vertical. Scouting
report from John Murphy of Next Level: "there are
several 3-4 teams that have been eyeing him as a possible pass
rusher off the corner... played mostly DE in college, but has
shown the footwork and athleticism to make the transition to OLB
in the pros." John Murphy of Next Level reported
from Rabe's Pro Day on March 8: "senior linebacker/defensive
end RUSSELL RABE ran between 4.58 and 4.66 in the 40... 37.5"
vertical... he is 6024, 235 pounds... a total of eight teams were
in attendance, including Detroit, Houston, Indianapolis, Miami,
New England, NY Giants, Oakland and San Francisco... his results
were done on a very average indoor surface, as he slipped a few
times before changing shoes... he would become the school's first-ever
linebacker to be drafted... but posting 45.5 career tackles for
loss and 29 career sacks should help raise his awareness among
scouts... he expects to be one of the busiest guys in April taking
5-7 private visits... scouts also mentioned that he could be a
3-4 OLB or 4-3 WLB." Rabe worked out again on March
18: "senior linebacker RUSSELL RABE ran between
4.62 and 4.64 in the 40... 4.20 short shuttle... 6.91 three-cone...
11.50 60-yard... 37.5" vertical... 10'0" broad jump...
19 reps of 225 pounds... weighed in at 6025, 230 pounds... all
results were recorded on a Tartan surface... they came during
a private workout with Seattle... he did better in most areas
except the broad jump (10'2") from his original Pro Day...
has drawn a lot of interest, especially from 3-4 teams, as he
was a college DE, but will move to OLB in the pros... shows impressive
quickness off the ball and natural pass rushing skills... don't
be surprised if you hear his name come off the board earlier than
expected (fifth round) come draft day."
G Nick Steitz, Oregon
6'4, 312
Tough, run-blocking blocker limited in pass defense.
