Chris Paul and Byron Scott |
Congratulations to the Hornets and their
NBA Coach of the Year Byron Scott. The future is bright for both
major pro New Orleans sports teams, and that hasn't been said
in a very long time.
Tom Benson was recently a guest of Hornets owner
George Shinn courtside at a Hornets playoff game.
Don't forget the Voodoo, who are 7-2 and playing
at a very high level in the Arena League, helmed by New Orleans
native Danny Wimprine, who was just named AFL Offensive Player
of the Week. Wimprine has 48 touchdowns and three interceptions
so far this season.
Mueller Back In NFL: Randy Mueller has been
hired by the San Diego Chargers as a "senior executive",
likely to replace retired assistant general manager Buddy Nix.
Mueller was the 2000 NFL Executive of the Year with the Saints,
and later traded for Ricky Williams while in Miami.
Federspiel Honored: Joe Federspiel will be
inducted in the Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame Wednesday night.
The former Kentucky Wildcat played nine seasons in New Orleans,
starting 88 games, and later played for the Baltimore Colts and
the Chicago Blitz of the USFL. He was a fourth round pick of the
Saints in 1983. Federspiel and Tommy Myers, picked 25 picks earlier,
were the only two legitimate stars from that Saints class.
Former New Orleans Hornet Jamal Mashburn and University
of Kentucky basketball coach Tubby Smith are joining Federspiel
at the ceremonies Wednesday night.
Colston Buys In: WR Marques Colston has bought
into his hometown's expansion franchise in the American Indoor
Football Association. Colston starred in football and track at
Susquehanna Township High School in Harrisburg, PA. The team will
begin play in 2009 and Colston will become the majority owner
in 2010.
Notes: Former LSU and Saints LB EJ Kuale
has been given a second shot in the NFL with the Chiefs. Kuale
was cut by the Saints after a drug-related arrest... ESPN's Todd
McShay has picked the Saints to pick Southern Mississippi LB Gerald
McRath with the 26th overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft...
