The Saints' defensive line has been the
star of training camp so far. And they've done it
without half their starting lineup, Brian Young and Hollis
Thomas, missing time.
To be honest, they should. Between the three top
defensive ends, Charles Grant, Will Smith and Bobby McCray, the
Saints have over $150 million in total contract value tied up.
Including Sedrick Ellis' $49 max contract value, the Saints have
over $80 million in total contracts at defensive tackle.
The defensive line, featuring Ellis, Antwan Lake
and Kendrick Clancy at tackle, dominated the scrimmage and stood
out again today in goal line drills.
Injury Notes: Josh Bullocks, Devery
Henderson, Mike McKenzie, Tracy
Porter, Hollis Thomas, and Brian Young sat out on Monday. Jeremy
Shockey practice limitedly. DE Josh Savage sat out the second
of two practices with a sore shoulder.
TE Jeremy Shockey, CB Mike McKenzie, RB Deuce McAllister,
CB Tracy Porter and WR Devery Henderson will not play Thursday
nice. A notable sit for the Cardinals is WR Anquan Boldin.
New DT's: To get enough depth
for the Thursday preseason game, the Saints made some additions
at defensive tackle on Monday. Former Tampa Bay Storm of the
Arena League defensive lineman Tim McGill was added. McGill has
hopped around the NFL for the past nine seasons since leaving
Illinois in 1999. The Saints also signed veteran DT James Reed,
who has 32 starts in the past three seasons and seven total seasons
in the NFL under his belt. Reed played five years for the Jets
before joining the Chiefs for the past two years. Reed has 139
solo tackles and seven sacks in his career.
McGill, 6'2, 320 pounds is more of a nose tackle
while Reed is 6'0, 290 pounds and a three-technique defensive
tackle.
The Saints waived WR Curtis Hamiltion and DE Marquies
Gunn.
The Saints also plan to work out leading Storm
WR Hank Edwards.
USC Reunion in the Desert: Numerous
teammates of the USC Trojans will be reunited on Thursday night,
including RB Reggie Bush, DT Sedrick Ellis, QB Matt Leinart,
and G Deuce Lutui. A fifth Trojan, Saints TE Billy Miller, played
at USC nine years ago.
Former Purdue Boilermakers DE Chike Okeafor and
QB Drew Brees will also be reunited.
Notes: Former Saints WR Danny
Abramowicz has a new television show on the EWTN Global Catholic
Network... Reggie Bush's girlfriend Kim Kardashian, a celebrity
on her own thanks to some inexplicably watched television shows,
joined training camp this weekend... Former Saints savior Tebucky
Jones has been arrested at the Mohegan Sun casino in Connecticut
after a lobby fight and has been released on bond...
