Pro Bowl Snub: While no Saint was named to the
Pro Bowl team in initial voting for the first time since 1980,
at least four Saints deserved bids: QB Drew Brees, WR Marques
Colston, G Jahri Evans and CB Mike McKenzie.
No Saint was named as a reserve, though four were named alternates:
Brees, McKenzie, FB Mike Karney and starting RDE Will Smith.
Colston, despite being in the top five of NFC yardage and catches,
wasn't even an alternate.
No Jaguars or Buccaneers made the team either, completing a southern
trifecta of snubbed teams. 11 Cowboys were selected.
The Saints may send an alternate if injury knocks out a starter.
Young to IR: After contracting a nasty case
of pneumonia to go with his sore knee, DT Brian Young has been
placed on injured reserve. Young, who was having pain breathing,
had fluid drained from his chest cavity and lungs. Young is in
the hospital and could be in for two weeks.
Antwan Lake and Renaldo Wynn have been starting in Young's place,
with Wynn starting against Arizona on Sunday.
Prior to this season, Young, 30, has missed only one game in
three years with the Saints and had missed only six games since
2000 when he entered the league with the Rams. Young appeared
in nine games for the Saints this season, registering 18 tackles,
a forced fumble and three sacks.
Bush to Return to Practice: Sean Payton was
"optimistic" that Reggie Bush would play this Sunday,
noting that he is ahead of schedule rehabbing his damaged left
PCL.
The coach said Bush was planning to practice this week.
Notes: Saints offensive consultant Marc Trestman
has been hired by the Montreal Allouettes of the CFL as their
new head coach... Florida Atlantic's football team worked out
at the Saints' indoor training facility on Tuesday. The Owls play
in the New Orleans Bowl on December 21 against the Memphis Tigers...The
Saints-Falcons Monday night game was the lowest rated ESPN Monday
night game of the season...
