With a 7-9 record and a stronger strength of
schedule than Cincinnatti, the Saints will own the 10th overall
selection this April in the 2008 NFL Draft.
The Saints have drafted twice with the 10th overall pick in their
history. In 1997, Mike Ditka and Bill Kuharich selected Colorda
G Chris Naeole. And in 1970, Vic Schwenk and Tom Fears selected
Texas Southern WR Ken Burrough.
The last time the Saints finished 7-9, the Saints drafted 13th
overall in the 2002 Draft and selected Tennessee WR Donte' Stallworth.
The Saints have all seven of their original draft picks intact.
The draft pick paid to Miami for Olindo Mare was last April. Following
their 7-9 1995 season, the Saints selected Oregon CB Alex Molden
11th overall.
The Saints are one of seven teams to finish at 7-9. The Saints'
opponents had a win/loss percentage of .477, second worst of the
seven and above only Cincinnati at .461. Cincinnati will pick
9th, after 5-11 teams San Francisco (who traded their pick to
New England) and Baltimore. The Saints will be followed by Buffalo,
Denver, and Carolina, Chicago and Detroit. No team finished 6-10.
