Second-round selection LeCharles Bentley, an interior offensive lineman from Ohio State, has agreed to a four-year contract with the Saints.
Bentley is expected to immediately fight for and win the starting right guard job and eventually be groomed as the replacement for veteran Jerry Fontenot, an anchor at center. Bentley's chief opposition for the right guard job is third-year veteran Tutan Reyes, a 5th-round pick out of Mississippi in 2000 who has yet to see any playing time as a Saint.
Bentley was regarded as one of the top center and guard prospects in the draft this past April, and was considered a steal in the second round even though he was not the first interior lineman drafted.
With Bentley signed, the Saints have turned their focus to top selection WR Donte Stallworth.
