Saints Ink Two Draft Picks to Three-Year Deals
3rd round pick LB James Allen and 6th round selection TE John Gilmore, Jr. have inked three-year contracts and will join the Saints at training camp this weekend.
Both signed three year deals, but financial deals are undisclosed at this time.
The first two rookie signings leave seven draft picks still unsigned.
Allen is likely to win a roster spot as the backup and possible heir to the weakside linebacker job behind veteran Darrin Smith. The rookie out of Oregon State weighs in at 6'3, 240, and is a solid athlete. He will be wearing jersey number 50.
Gilmore was a team captain for the Penn State Nittany Lions as a senior and comes to the Saints as a good athlete with tremendous size for the position at 6'3, 265. But Gilmore had little exposure to the passing game and was mainly a blocker and special teamer. He is competing with Johnny Mitchell, Boo Williams, and Lamont Hall for a pair of spots on the roster behind starter David Sloan.
Gilmore was drafted with the selection that the Saints acquired from the New York Jets in exchange for RB Chad Morton.
