For the first time since training camp began, rookie RB Ricky Williams has returned from a hamstring injury to practice with the team.
An undrafted rookie this past April, the 5'8", 195 pound scatback caught 92 passes as a senior runningback at Texas Tech last season.
Williams, who wears number 42 for the Saints, has missed almost all of training camp so far and some minicamp sessions with a hamstring injury. He was limited in his action today, but is expected to play on Thursday night against Miami.
"He's got great running skills and you can see it. Let's hope the hamstring holds up," Jim Haslett said after practice on Tuesday.
Williams begins his climb to get a roster spot on the team. After missing time, he has lost opportunities to beat out fellow youngsters Jeff Chaney and James Fenderson for the third string runningback position.
