Statement from Tom Benson on the loss of Buddy Diliberto

A statement from Saints Owner Tom Benson on the passing of New Orleans media legend Buddy Diliberto (Buddy D.), who died late Friday night at his home in Metairie at the age of 73.

"It is with tremendous sadness that I learn about the passing of Buddy Diliberto. As everyone knew him, he was a passionate and caring person and cared deeply for the things he believed in and for that, our city and the people who listened to him daily will miss him greatly."

"He was a great ambassador for our city. He was a powerful voice, with powerful conviction. Buddy's passion for the Saints was as true as you can get. Although he could be our harshest critic, he was our most ardent supporter. There will always be a link, a connection between our team and Buddy, even with his passing, his legacy will live on. And I for one consider the many years we shared together, the joys and the heartbreaks, the battles and the enjoyment of victory an honor. He will be missed and our heartfelt condolences go out to his wife Peggy and their entire family."

Diliberto, the colorful sports commentator for WWL radio who spent over 50 years covering the New Orleans sports scene, first in the newspaper, then on television and finally on radio, is survived by his wife Peggy and his children: Chris, Mike, Katie, and Debbie.
