Promising rookie and fifth round pick Rob Ninkovich injured two ligaments in his knee during the first quarter of Monday night's victory over the Falcons.
A high-motor and versatile backup, Ninkovich is a rookie out of Purdue who served on special teams, as a key backup at defensive end and even the Saints' emergency long snapper.
He injured the MCL and ACL on the play, but the Saints won't know for sure the extent of the injury because of swelling to the knee. Team doctors should take a look by the end of the week and make a determination. It might be possible for the Ninkovich to return in November or December if the Saints choose not to put him on injured reserve and retain him as inactive on the 53-man roster.
A stud in preseason, he was in on seventeen tackles, three sacks, two forced fumbles, and two quarterback hurries, all coming off the bench. Ninkovich was in on four tackles and a pass defense in just over two games work in the regular season.
