The Saints have lost offensive line coach Doug Marrone to his alma mater, Syracuse University, according to the NFL Network.
Marrone will accept the head coaching job at Syracuse, who let go of Greg Robinson.
He was with the Saints in Chicago on Thursday night. He will reportedly fly to New York on Friday to finalize the deal and be announced that afternoon. East Carolina head coach Skip Holtz also reportedly turned down the job.
Marrone has also served as "running game" coordinator under offensive-intense Sean Payton, who called his own plays in New Orleans, since 2006.
Marrone came to the Saints from the Jets, where he was the offensive line coach. Not retained by the Jets coach Eric Mangini after four years in New York, Marrone spent time in similar roles at the collegiate level, including the University of Tennessee, Georgia and Georgia Tech.
Marrone had a short NFL career, including with the Saints in 1989.
