As we figured, the Saints have promoted Pete Carmichael Jr. to offensive coordinator.
He had been serving as quarterbacks coach and co-offensive coordinator under head coach Sean Payton since 2006.
The promotion of Carmichael Jr. completes promises made to him when he turned down Miami's offensive coordinator job 11 months ago.
Runningbacks coach Aaron Kromer, a veteran coach on the staff, has been promoted to offensive line/running game coordinator.
This means that the Carmichael Jr. will still be dealing with the passing game with another coach carrying the title "running game coordinator". The past three seasons, it was Doug Marrone, who has left the Saints for the top job at Syracuse.
The Saints also promoted offensive assistant John Lombardi to quarterbacks coach, taking on some of Carmichael Jr.'s responsibilities.
The one new hire to announce is Bret Ingalls as runningbacks coach, the latest in a long string of Saints coaches under Payton plucked from the collegiate ranks. Almost all coaches hired by the Saints since Payton was hired have been taken straight from the college ranks or have significant collegiate coaching experience.
Ingalls was hired away from Northwestern University, where he was running game coordinator and offensive line coach.
