Saints move camp to Metairie, preseason sched set

The Saints have announced that they are moving training camp back to Metairie to their headquarters. More than half of NFL teams do this.

Players stay in a nearby hotel but often fight traffic in their own vehicles to report to camp. In our opinion, this robs the team of a certain amount of camaraderie and chemistry-building when they are forced to a remote location.

The Saints previously held their training camps at their headquarters from 2003-2005, a span that included two poorly under performing performances besides the 3-13 season lost to Katrina.

The Saints had held their training camp in Jackson, MS on the campus of Millsaps College, which does not offer a new indoor facility like the Saints have in Metairie. Players are expected to report July 29.

The Saints' preseason schedule has been announced: vs Cincinnati, at Houston, at Oakland, vs Miami.

Its becoming a foregone conclusion that the Saints and Dolphins will play each other in the final week of preseason, it has happened three years in a row now and five times in the past seven.

In fact, all the preseason opponents are familiar exhibition faces: the Saints have played in Cincinnati the past two preseasons, have played the Texans more than once in that team's short history, and last played in Oakland while Katrina struck the gulf coast in 2005.
