The Saints have cut the longest tenured current Saint, LS Kevin Houser, and replaced him with Jason Kyle, five years older at age 37.
Houser's release was likely related to an investment scheme he led that failed. The scheme, involving a startup Louisiana film studio and tax incentive credits, involved a number of Saints players and coaches, including head coach Sean Payton. When the deal went sour, Houser's locker room approval rating had apparently gone south in a hurry.
Kyle has been a long snapper in the NFL since 1995 and has spent the last eight seasons in Carolina.
Houser was a seventh round pick of the Saints in 2000 and had been the Saints long snapper ever since.
