Saints open practice in morning, close practice tonight

Thunderstorms forced the Saints to their state-of-the-art indoor facility in the PM, but the morning practice was highlighted by a vocal Gregg Williams, competitive and sometimes violent collisions, Jonathan Vilma ripping the ball out of Jeremy Shockey's arms, and Lance Moore going full speed in individual and passing drills.

Moore wore a red "quarterback" jersey and is still working on his offseason shoulder surgery. Moore was a lot closer to the field than fellow wide receiver Adrian Arrington, who couldn't get on the field the short time he was outside.

As for Vilma and his hernia-but-not-a-hernia surgery, his reps were limited but he participated in all drills. Payton said that he was happy Vilma decided to have the surgery, which was "three-and-a-half weeks before we got here to today, and in his case we all feel it was a good decision because now it's something that won't linger on."

When the Saints move indoors, fans are not allowed. Over 2000 watched the first practice in the AM.
