The Saints were in the broiler today for two practices.
Refreshingly, first round pick Malcolm Jenkins joined the team for his first practices of camp and Brees rejoined the team after missing the weekend to attend to family matters.
Jenkins had been working out on his own in the New Orleans area and weighed in at 204 pounds, a pound under his required reporting weight. He said he had his playbook and had been studying day in and day out, that is, when he wasn't watching the hall of fame game, UFC, or Funny People. The brutal heat welcomed him to the active roster and hit him hard immediately, but "I caught my second wind toward the end of practice. The clouds came out a little bit which helped me out. I just need to get a couple of practices under my belt."
He admitted he hadn't worn shoulder pads since January 5, when Texas beat Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl on a touchdown pass with 16 seconds left to Quan Cosby (not Jenkins' man on the play.)
Jenkins' contract, by the way, fits in exactly where it should have: $19 million in total possible money with $11 million guaranteed.
Brees rejoined the team Monday but did not take questions. The cause of his mother's death is still under investigation and no details have been released.
