Brees-less scrimmage "won" by defenses on Saturday

The Saints have team meetings today on Sunday, the day after the scrimmage and the day before two straight two-a-day practice days.

Drew Brees left camp with permission to deal with the death of his mother in Colorado. That left Mark Brunell and Joey Harrington to the wolves, and the Saints' newly aggressive defense collected two interceptions, two fumble recoveries and four sacks. Notes from the official here.

Safety Roman Harper collected a pick and a sack while defense Jeff Charleston collected a fumble and tipped a pass that would be intercepted by strong-rising Jason David.

Both Harrington and Brunell played all three offensive squads, Brunell had the better night. Both quarterbacks led their teams to touchdowns and both threw interceptions.

Back to Brees, on a sad note, his mother passed away while visiting her son Reid in Colorado. Payton said he wasn't sure when Brees would return. The staff of NOPF expresses their deepest condolences to the Brees family.
