Cushing signs at 14; Jenkins now bracketed

Training camp rages on in Metairie.

With 13th overall pick Brian Orakpo and 15th overall pick Brian Cushing under contracts in Washington and Houston, respectively, the 14th overall pick in the draft now has a floor and a ceiling to his contract.

Cushing's deal is for five years, and according to the Times-Picayune, could be worth a maximum of $18 and includes $10.435 million in guaranteed money.

So the Saints and Jenkins are now settled: the total value, including all possible escalators, will be between $18 and $20 million. The guaranteed money of the deal will be between $10.435 and $12.1 million.

Any continued delay will mean that one side is being unreasonable. And since the same agent represents Orakpo, Jenkins and Cushing, any continued delay will be the fault of the Saints: front office, Mickey Loomis and Khai Harley. Jenkins' representation isn't going to harm themselves by signing a deal that is better than Orakpo's or worse than Cushing's.
