In a move that surprises no fan after Friday night, the Saints have released CB Jason David.
His two-year Saints career was marred by numerous highlights against the Saints, David in trail position. His transition from the Colts' cover 2 scheme never really completed, and though David led the Saints in interceptions last season, there were too many big plays still given up. Friday night's game was no change, as more than half of all passing yards collected by the Bengals in the first half were against David.
UPDATE: The move will save the Saints roughly $2 million in 2009 salary cap.
Replacing David on the roster is CB Greg Fassitt, a Grambling product and New Orleans native who was with the Saints in camp in 2008 but was lost for the season to a knee injury. Fassitt originally signed as an undrafted free agent out of Grambling in 2007 with the Bears, and was on their practice squad as a rookie. Fassitt was with the Bucs during this offseason but was released by Tampa Bay after the draft.
