Saints, Texans rumble in Houston

originally posted 9:18AM

The last of three practices is underway in Houston at the Texans' practice facility, starting at 8:30am.

And the two teams are literally taking out their frustration and aggression on eachother.

LB Troy Evans is apparently already at the middle of two separate, squad-consuming brawls a half hour into practice.

In theory, both teams are in light pads and helmets but are not allowed to hit the ground in squad practices. UPDATE: The Saints defense was ignoring that request.

Meanwhile, both the Houston Cougars and Rice Owls college football squads are watching how the pros do it.

The Saints will practice on their own at 3:30pm this afternoon, and the two teams will continue their grudge match on Saturday night at Reliant Stadium.

UPDATE: Another fight, this time involving the top two tight ends currently healthy for the Saints: Jeremy Shockey and Buck Ortega. Shockey started his own fight by throwing a fist.

UPDATE: Video of one of several brawls from today's joint practice: the one Shockey started.

UPDATE: Upon further review, in our opinion, Shockey was certainly in the middle of this brawl, but he didn't start it. Texans LB DeMeco Ryans deserves the credit for starting that dogpile.

Will update with more as it comes out.

On the injury front, Jammal Brown has not come out for practice, putting Jermon Bushrod at left tackle with the first team.

Finally, Drew Brees has rejoined the Saints.
