Training camp heats up in Metairie

While continued thunderstorms in south Louisiana continue to push the Saints inside in the afternoons, the temperature is rising during training camp.

Gregg Williams' aggressive defense may be wearing thin the patience of offensive players in passing drills. Paris Warren, Anthony Hargrove, Jermon Bushrod and Leigh Torrence were at the middle of a brief tussle during camp on Saturday, started when Warren was slammed to the ground. Pierson Prioleau, brought in specifically to help evangelize Williams' scheme because of his familiarity with the coach, has been really laying the lumber on Saints runners.

The Saints offense got the better of the defense on Saturday though, hitting back in their own fashion- a flea flicker touchdown bomb from Brees to Meachem.

No major injuries have come up but some minor ones are forcing players out of individual practices. DT Kendrick Clancy (back), RB Reggie Bush (unspecified), WR Adrian Arrington (lingering hamstring injury), WR Lance Moore (wearing a red shirt with a recovering shoulder injury), T Jammal Brown (upset stomach) missed time on Saturday.

Arrington's injury has to be considered the most serious in camp at this point, as he is unable to practice.

The Saints have one practice scheduled for Sunday, in the afternoon.

Bush's absence was described as precautionary.

Notes: LS/DE Rob Ninkovich has been picked up by the New England Patriots... Ohio State RB Chris "Beanie" Wells, coveted by Sean Payton but eventually drafted by the Cardinals with the 31st pick overall, signed his contract on Saturday, went out to practice and sprained his knee...
