Tuesday Injury Report

  • TE Billy Miller a near-lock to make this team, but he's been missing an lot of time with a knee injury. Miller finally returned to practice on Tuesday, to an limited extent. "He’s still working through it but he’s out there and needs to get his strength back now," Sean Payton said today after practice. Miller has been out for nearly two weeks and has missed both preseason games so far. It isn't likely any of the young tight ends on the roster could bump Miller off the roster, but its not out of the question. The Saints actually cut Miller last year as they scrambled for roster spots to replace injured players, then re-signed him five days later. Payton described Miller's current condition as "hobbling".
  • LT Jammal Brown, T Anthony Brown, TE Darnell Dinkins, S Chip Vaughn and WR D'Juan Woods missed practice.
  • RB Reggie Bush, QB Joey Harrington and S Darren Sharper participated in only the walkthrough portion of practice and sat out the team drills. DE Charles Grant reported did a little bit of both.
  • Payton said the starters will play "a full half and then see where they’re at in the third quarter and give them some reps out of the locker room."
  • Payton: "We typically play our starters probably the most of all four games. Number one, you want to make sure we’re getting those guys ready for the start of the regular season. Secondly we’re involved heavily in the evaluation process making sure you have the right guys. It puts you a week away from your final cutdown." The Saints must get down to 75 players on September 1 and 53 players on September 5. They can fill their opening week's practice squad on September 6.
  • Payton confirmed that for the first time this preseason, WR Lance Moore will play.
