Gameday Injury Report

The Saints and Lions kick off their regular seasons today at noon in the Superdome.

LT Jammal Brown (sports hernia surgery, hip surgery) is OUT. He will be replaced by third year Jermon Bushrod in the starting lineup. It is Bushrod's first NFL start and only his fourth appearance in a game.

TE Darnell Dinkins (left ankle) is OUT. Dinkins was a depth player at the position, where Jeremy Shockey is expected to start and be backed up by Buck Ortega and newly-acquired David Thomas. Shockey tweaked an ankle in practice this week but is listed as probable.

RB Pierre Thomas (strained MCL) is OUT. The other three runningbacks on the roster, Reggie Bush, Mike Bell and Lynell Hamilton, are expected to be active and play.

As for the Lions, their most signifant injury appears to be to backup quarterback Drew Stanton, who is the third string quarterback. Should something happen to rookie starter Matt Stafford, Daunte Culpepper would enter the game.

UPDATE: Lions CB Philip Buchanon has been deactivated by the Lions with a listed neck injury. This is somewhat significant as Buchanon has intercepted Brees twice. Also, short-time Saint DT Orien Harris is not active for the Lions.

Inactive for the Saints are: RB Pierre Thomas (knee), FS Usama Young (shoulder), Rod Harper (healthy), DT Remi Ayodele (healthy), LB Jonathan Casillas (healthy), LT Jammal Brown (sports hernia and hip surgery), TE Darnell Dinkins (ankle), C Nick Leckey (healthy).
