Notes: with Grant and Smith onboard for season, Spicer looking elsewhere

  • With Charles Grant and Will Smith avoiding suspension in the Starcaps issue for at least the 2009 season (the Minnesota trial isn't likely to even begin until 2010), the Saints aren't likely to bring back DE Paul Spicer, cut after the preseason finale. Spicer has drawn some attention from the Saints' week one opponents.
  • The newly-christened Benson Tower is finally under the ownership of the Benson family, via the state-brokered transaction as part of the Saints' long-term agreement.
  • Former Saints scout Mike Siani has been hired as head coach of the AIFA's Richmond Raiders.
  • Former Saints front office executive Arnie Fielkow has ruled himself out of the New Orleans mayorial race.
  • No betting line available yet for the Saints, as odds makers are waiting for the health of Donovan McNabb to be determined later this week.
  • KR Courtney Roby on returning to the Saints: "In tha NOLA, back on tha GRIND....WHO DAT!!!!"
