Game Day going for 8-0

  • Right now, it is a subjective opinion that this is the best Saints team ever through seven games. The 1991 Saints were also 7-0.

By tonight, it could be an objective opinion that this is the best Sainst team ever. An 8-0 New Orleans team would officially have the best start in franchise history.

  • The Saints' churn at defensive tackle continues. The team has decided to sit down Kendrick Clancy for the season, placing him on injured reserve, because of a lingering knee injury that was aggravated during Monday night's victory over Atlanta.

The Saints have finally made the move to promote DT DeMario Pressley from the practice squad. Pressley, a fifth round pick last year, missed his rookie season with a foot injury and made the practice squad out of training camp this year.

It is apparent that neither mid-week tryout warranted a contract.

Starting DT Sedrick Ellis remains out, so the starters will be Remi Ayodele and Anthony Hargrove.

  • The Saints have not beaten the Panthers in the Superdome since 2001, when the 6-5 Saints beat a Chris Weinke-lead, 1-10 team Panthers team 27-23. The Saints fell behind 23-20 in the fourth quarter of that game and an Aaron Brooks touchdown pass to Joe Horn was the late game winner in the final season of the George Seifert era.
