An online source from Philadelphia report that the Saints have waived fullback Kyle Eckel. The Saints are working out linebackers this week, and may have needed Eckel's roster spot considering the mounting injuries on defense.
This is an interesting development and may be an indication that the Saints have done away with the fullback position altogether. TE David Thomas has done such a good job in the backfield that Eckel hadn't seen a snap since Tampa Bay.
The Saints have also enjoyed the healthy return of TE Darnell Dinkins to spread the considerable workout of the position out between three men. All three tight ends have scored touchdowns this year. The Saints spend considerable time running out of 2TE sets and often start games with that formation.
Eckel's departure may not be a sea change in philosophy, ofcourse, if he is re-signed in a matter of days.
