John Gilmore Jr., tight end, Penn State

#24 - Sixth Round (196th Overall)

TE John Gilmore Jr., Penn State - 6'3 - 265

The Saints added Gilmore to the tight end mix late in the draft, giving the Saints five tight ends on the roster. Gilmore will compete with Boo Williams and Johnny Mitchell for a roster spot behind starter David Sloan and h-back Lamont Hall.

Gilmore was the Nittany Lions' MVP last year as a senior and third on the team in receiving with 25 catches for 284 yards. A good blocker with quick feet and 4.99 40 speed (good for his size), Gilmore is a reliable and durable target.

Seems to resemble Lamont Hall, in that he's a slow but effective blocking tight end, but may end up being a better receiver. Still needs some work on blocking technique.

Graduated from school a calendar year ago. Comes from a family of football players.
