Notes: Brees to cover Madden 11, Bush's suit settled, draft notes and more

Brees to Madden 11

Saints QB Drew Brees has been chosen to be on the cover of Madden 11, beating out Vikings DE Jared Allen and Colts WR Reggie Wayne in a vote for the honor.

Brees will promote the game on Live with Regis and Kelly and The Late Show with David Letterman in New York over the next two days.

Bush Settles NCAA Issues?

Saints RB Reggie Bush avoided a deposition in the civil lawsuit from a one-time, would-be marketing agent by settling the matter out of court.  Lloyd Lake sued Bush and alleged that he had provided thousands of dollars and living expenses to Bush and his family while Bush was at USC.  Bush backed out of the deal with Lake when he turned pro, and Lake's lawsuit provided fuel for a major yet lengthy NCAA investigation of the issue.

The settlement amount was reportedly $300,000, the amount Lake was seeking.

Bush did have a deposition with the NCAA, but avoided being deposed while under oath and under the risk of perjury.  The results of the NCAA's investigation are pending, but further investigation may now be limited by the settlement agreement.  On the other hand, the settlement itself may be an indictment of the amateur status violations by Bush.

Evans absent as five RFAs hold pen

Word from Pro Bowl G Jahri Evans' agent, Jerrold Colton, confirmed word that Evans was not at the Saints' offseason training program.

The Saints have no officially announced those who are not attending, but Evans and LT Jammal Brown and have independently acknowledged not attending.

The Saints have only publicly said that "99.9%" of players are in attendance.

Colton and the Saints are negotiating a new long-term contract for Evans and have been for some time.

Brown and Evans are among five restricted free agents who have not signed their one-year tender offer.   Of those five, only RB Pierre Thomas deserves to be a restricted free agent.  Brown, Evans, SS Roman Harper and WR Lance Moore would have been unrestricted free agents had the league and its union agreed on a new CBA.

Harper, Moore and Thomas all reported to the offseason conditioning program and signed an injury waiver while they are not under contract.
