Saints GM Mickey Loomis addressed the media minutes after their second round pick.
"This was a case of best available player and best available player for us on our board by far," Loomis said of the Saints' second round pick. "We weren't expecting to take an offensive tackle early in the draft. It was like when we took Deuce McAllister and Will Smith. There really wasn't a lot of debate."
Mickey downplayed the speculation that this pick will result in the departure of Pro Bowl tackle Jammal Brown, who missed the 2009 season and Super Bowl run with hip and groin injuries. "There's nothing imminent with Jammal Brown. We certainly didn't draft Charles with the idea that we're moving on from Jammal.
"In fact, we like the tackles that we have, Jammal has been to the Pro Bowl, although he was injured last year, he's a very good player... There's nothing wrong with stockpiling offensive lineman, and tackles in particular."
On Brown's position: "We envision him as a tackle. He's going to be a little bit of a developmental guy with us, we need to get him stronger... We envision him as a left tackle at this point."
