Saints 2010 Draft Day Two Preview

The Saints have two picks on Friday night, and appear to have saturated the defensive secondary with the pick of CB Patrick Robinson.  Mickey Loomis said they had ruled out kicker and punter in this year's draft, so our expectation is that at least one pick of Friday night will address the defensive front seven.

Its the makeup of that front seven that is the question.  The Saints play a base 4-3 in theory, but spent a lot of time in various three-linemen and four-linebacker situations.

It is logical to see the Saints taking a player who can play at any spot in any of Gregg Williams' imaginative front sevens.  Other potential positions to address are tight end, interior offensive line, and backup quarterback.

Potential targets for Friday night broken down by potential role:

Hybrid edge linebacker - Ohio State's Thaddeus Gibson, Utah's Koa Misi, Clemson's Ricky Sapp, Virginia Tech's Jason Worilds

Outside linebacker - South Carolina's Eric Norwood, Texas' Roddrick Muckelroy, LSU's Perry Riley, Washington's Donald Butler

Defensive end - Northwestern's Corey Wootton, Arkansas State Alex Carrington, USC's Everson Griffen

Defensive tackle - East Carolina's Linval Joseph, LSU's Al Woods, Georgia's Gene Atkins, Alabama's Terrence Cody, North Carolina's Cam Thomas, UCF's Torrell Troup, Purdue's Mike Neal, Arizona DT Earl Mitchell

Interior offensive line: Illinois' Jon Asamoah, Utah's Zane Beadles, Hillsdale's Ed Veldheer, Arizona State's Shawn Lauvao

Tight end: BYU's Dennis Pitta, USC's Anthony McCoy, Florida's Aaron Hernandez, Oregon's Ed Dickson, Miami's Jimmy Graham

Quarterback: Cincinnati's Tony Pike, Northwestern's Mike Kafka, Troy's Levi Brown, Central Michigan's Dan LeFevour, Penn State's Daryll Clark
