Meachem on crutches; toe surgery ends his offseason workouts

WR Robert Meachem is expected to be ready for training after undergoing toe surgery to repair damaged cartilage.

On crutches, Meachem downplayed the injury but head coach Sean Payton explained that it was a late-season injury.  Meachem played through pain and was diagnosed with rest. As he picked up activity during the Saints' offseason workouts, Meachem was still bothered by the problem and Payton said he was glad the Saints were proactive about making the decision for surgery.

Both Meachem and recently re-signed Darren Sharper are expected to miss the Saints' mandatory minicamp in June but be ready for camp.
