The Saints have opened their annual mandatory minicamp practices at their headquarters in Metairie, LA.
The first meetings of minicamp are tonight.
The biggest news expected to come out of this event are holdouts by the Saints' unsigned restricted free agents.
LT Jammal Brown, FS Roman Harper, WR Lance Moore, and RB Pierre Thomas are unsigned but the Saints own their rights with one year tender offers under the restricted free agent system of the final league year.
The Saints have been negotiating with Pierre Thomas' representation, but the Thomas' mood has turned. After speaking openly about his willingness to be with his team turning the offseason training program despite not being under contract, Thomas has not been at recent Organized Training Activities.
Any other news coming from minicamp would likely be bad - in the form of injuries. A quiet weekend would be good for this team.
TE Jeremy Shockey, who suffered what may have been a seizure last week in the facility, was released from the hospital shortly and cleared to participate in the minicamp. It was a curious event, several of his teammates were "freaked out" by what appeared to be a minute-long seizure. Shockey reportedly walked to an ambulance, though no details have been released as to the cause or diagnosis.
Shockey was hospitalized last offseason after becoming dehydrated at a pool party. Dehydration can also result in seizures, though linking the two offseason events is speculative.
While a host of Saints are out until training camp, Shockey should be joined by two 2009 draft picks Stanley Arnoux and Chip Vaughn, who missed all of their rookies seasons with injury, as well as FB Heath Evans, who reports that his serious knee injury from last season is "almost 100%."
