The Saints opened camp today with four players on the Physically Unable to Perform list: receivers Marques Colston and Robert Meachem, veteran safety Darren Sharper and newcomer linebacker Clint Ingram.
The PUP is a list that players can be activated from at any time, once the player is healthy to pass a physical. Players still count against the current 80-man roster limit.
Colston had a minor knee procedure, something that bothered him at the end of the season. His timeframe to return is "early next week". Colston was able to complete the conditioning test.
Meachem (toe) and Sharper (knee) may be ready just in time for the first preseason game.
Ingram's knee problem is a known factor for the Saints, who signed him with knowledge that he was still rehabbing the injury. He had surgery on his left knee while still a member of the Jaguars and could see his first practice action with the Saints next week.
The first formal practices of training camp start tomorrow, Friday.
The Saints opened two spaces on the roster by cutting FB Jason McKie and waiving DT Earl Heyman.
