Bush preempts Heisman committee

Reggie Bush preempted the Heisman committee which was due to meet today.  The committee was to decide on whether to ask Bush to return his 2005 Heisman trophy, considering the events that led to his disownment by alma mater USC.

Bush said in a statement that he voluntarily would return the trophy.  Yahoo! Sports last week reported that the committee would ask Bush to return the Heisman.  USC already voluntarily returned its copy of the Heisman trophy won by Bush in 2005.

"For the rest of my days," Bush said in a statement, "I will continue to strive to demonstrate through my actions and words that I was deserving of the confidence placed in me by the Heisman Trophy Trust."

Tennessee Titans QB Vince Young, who at the University of Texas was the runner up, said in a statement that Bush will "continue to be the 2005 Award recipient".
