Saints assemble first practice squad

The Saints' practice squad may see wholesale change from week to week during the regular season, but the first practice squad has been assembled almost entirely of players released by the Saints during preseason.

The only new Saints to be on the initial practice squad are FB Matt Clapp, from the University of Oklahoma, TE Dustin Mitchell, a product of Lutcher High school and Louisiana Tech.  He is joined by seventh round pick QB Sean Canfield, 2009 fourth round pick DT DeMario Pressley, undrafted rookie WR Montez Billings from Auburn, undrafted rookie G Brandon Carter from Texas Tech, undrafted rookie LB Harry Coleman from LSU, and 2009 undrafted free agent CB Reggie Jones.

Jersey number changes: RB DeShawn Wynn has changed his number from 43 to 21, which was worn by S Chip Vaughn.

LB K.C. Asiodu has changed jersey number from 49 to 54, which was worn by former special teams captain Troy Evans. Pierson Prioleau is the new Saints special teams captain.

Junior Galette has been moved to linebacker, where he'll mostly be used on special teams and specialty pass rush situations.  He's switched jersey numbers from 67 to 93, which was Bobby McCray's number.

Notes: Superior athlete Jermey Parnell, moved from defensive to offensive line by the Saints over the past season, was released by the Saints but claimed off waivers by Miami.  The Saints wanted Parnell on the practice squad.  Players must clear waivers before they can be added to the practice squad...  Miami also released former long-time Saint DE Charles Grant.. According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, the Saints are interested in free agent QB Matt Leinart...
