The Saints promoted free safety Darren Sharper to the 53-man roster in advance of the team's game at against the Browns today. To make room, the Saints released newly-signed cornerback Quincy Butler, who was signed only four days ago.
With Randall Gay on injured reserve, Tracy Porter out with an MCL sprain and Jabari Greer out with a shoulder injury, the Saints will start veteran Leigh Torrence and rookie Patrick Robinson at cornerback. Free safety Malcolm Jenkins will shift to nickelback in multiple receiver sets.
The Saints' top starting cornerbacks Porter and Greer are both inactive today, as are both starting runningbacks, Pierre Thomas (MCL) and Reggie Bush (broken fibula). WLB Scott Shanle remains out with a hamstring injury, and for the second straight week Jo-Lonn Dunbar will start in his place. Veteran Danny Clark filled in for Dunbar at strongside linebacker.
TE Tory Humprhey and rookies DE Junior Galette and T Charles Brown are also inactive today.
One other Saintly return to the field that could have happened today would be QB Jake Delhomme, the former Louisiana-Lafayette, Saint and Panther arm who is out with a high ankle sprain. His backup Seneca Wallace is also inactive today, and rookie QB Colt McCoy is set to start.
Browns WR Mohammed Massaquoi, one of the players hit by highly-fined, controversial hits to the helmet last week, is out this week though his teammate WR/KR Josh Cribbs will play and likely see a lot of wildcat snaps.
