FOXSports' Jay Glazer reported today that RB Pierre Thomas is in the Saints' doghouse.
Head coach Sean Payton is reportedly very frustrated with Thomas' recovery time from an ankle sprain suffered in week three against the Falcons.
Thomas is one of the players forced to play under a restricted free agent contract instead of hitting the open market this past offseason, a side-affect of the league's failure to extend the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
The Saints and Thomas' agent did discuss a new contract during the offseason, and Thomas sat out of some offseason activities. But no contract was signed, and Thomas signed his restricted free agent tender at the deadline and return to camp on time.
Glazer speculates that even when Thomas is healthy to return, Payton would sit him in favor of rookie Chris Ivory.
Thomas' last message on social networking site Twitter was two weeks ago when he wrote: "thanks for all the support and prayers from my family, fans and friends...I'm working hard to get back on the field w my teammates"
Through three games, Thomas has 46 carries for 147 yards, a 3.2 yard/carry average, and caught 17 passes for 133 yards. He scored one rushing touchdown, against the Vikings.
Ivory rushed for 158 yards last week against a struggling Bucs defense.
