NFL teams bulk up their roster after their season ends, filling out positions to get up to the offseason roster cap of 80. These players will likely make it through organized team activities (OTA's), minicamps and eventually training camp.
These players are not subject to the typical opening of free agency and have been signed under the rules of the existing, but set to expire, Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Various online reports indicate that the Saints have signed the following:
G Roger Allen, made the Rams as a rookie and started the season finale in an injury pinch in 2009, when he tore a knee ligament and lost his 2010 to rehab.
WR Montez Billings, who was with the Saints in training camp 2010 as an undrafted rookie out of Auburn. Had a couple nice highlights in preseason and spent some time on the Saints' practice squad.
QB Sean Canfield, a seventh round pick of the Saints in 2010 who never really had a shot against Patrick Ramsey and Chase Daniel to make the roster, and was used as a camp arm. Was promoted from the practice squad to the regular season roster for the Thanksgiving game in Dallas, but spent the season on the practice squad.
FB/TE Jed Collins , a versatile 6'2, 255 journeyman who has bounced around the league and spent time in 2010 on the Saints' practice squad.
TE Tyler Lorenzen, a familiar name on the Saints' offseason roster and practice squad.
DT Swanson Miller, signed with the Browns as an undrafted rookie in 2010, joined the Saints' practice squad in December.
CB Mark Parson, undrafted in 2009 and bounced between Houston's and New Orleans' practice squads. Finished the season on the Saints' practice squad.
G Brian De La Puente, a journeyman who spent time on the New Orleans practice squad in 2010.
WR Andy Tanner, signed as an undrafted rookie by the Saints in 2010, went to part of training camp and bounced on and off the Saints' practice squad during the season.
RB Chris Taylor, a veteran of two seasons with the Texans in 2006 and 2008, who lost his 2009 to a shoulder injury with the Patriots and spent time on the Saint practice squad in 2010.
