Saints head coach Sean Payton confirmed that the Denver Broncos faxed over a request to interview defensive coordinator Gregg Williams.
The Broncos waited until the end of the Saints' season to make the request, per league rules. Executive Vice President of Football Operations for the Broncos, John Elway, confirmed that Williams will interview on Wednesday.
The Saints granted permission, though they technically couldn't deny the Broncos permission because they are interviewing for a hrad coaching job.
Payton noted that if a head coach should be leery if teams don't come looking for your assistant coaches, and noted that he was proud of former Saint assistant Doug Marrone's success as head coach at Syracuse.
Williams was the only coach on the staff who received official interest on Monday.
He was previously the head coach of the Buffalo Bills for three seasons. He was fired in 2003 after compiling a 17-31 record.
Payton said that the plan is to return next season with the same coaching staff. All are under contract at least through next season.
