Saints ink ex-Charger S Oliver

The Saints were active today, adding and removing players around the 90-man roster cap.  The most recent addition is free agent free safety Paul Oliver.

Free safety Paul Oliver started eight games for the Chargers last season, playing in all 16, with 62 tackles, an interception and a forced fumble.  A collegiate cornerback who make an uneasy transition to safety, Oliver, 5'10, 210, 27, disappointed

Oliver entered the NFL via the supplemental draft in 2007, after being declared academically ineligible at Georgia.

Oliver's arrival helps soften the loss of versatile free safety Usama Young, who also was a college cornerback moved to safety.  Young signed with the Cleveland Browns.
