Saints Limp Into Oakland

This was not a good week of practice for the Saints in Oxnard, as the team picked up a host of new injuries.

Already ruled out of the game are WR Lance Moore (groin) and LG Carl Nicks (knee), two new injuries from practice this week.  Moore's groin injury, picked up on the final day of training camp on Friday, is new and concerning.

Nicks' injury, suffered earlier in the week, was very scary but tests showed no major injury.

Strong safety Roman Harper fractured a finger in training camp this week, and may not play on Sunday's nationally-televised game either.  Newcomers rookie RB Mark Ingram and OLB Will Herring also missed practice time this week with injuries.  Rookie WR Jarred Fayson suffered a right knee injury left practice on Tuesday.

Rookie WR Joe Morgan, with two touchdowns so far in preseason, will not play for the rest of preseason.  He's been knocked out for 2-4 weeks with a knee problem that will require minor arthoscopic surgery.  The injury may allow Morgan, who showed off impressive speed in camp and preseason, to be hidden by the Saints on their practice squad.

Rookie CB Johnny Patrick, DE Junior Galette,  G Roger Allen, OLB Clint Ingram, LB Ezra Butler, LB Ramon Humber, DT Tom Johnson, DE Jeff Charleston, CB Fabian Washington, and RB Chris Taylor were also out of action at some point this week.

DT Aubrayo Franklin, DE Greg Romeus, RB Chris Ivory continue to miss time with known long-term injuries.

Sean Payton expects the Saints' healthy starters to play one half, if not more, against the Raiders Sunday night in the Oakland Coliseum.  The last time the Saints and Raiders played in preseason, Brees and the Saints embarrassed the Raiders in Oakland, 45-7.

The Saints officially ended training camp in Oxnard, California this week, wrapping up their final practices in front of friendly crowds.  P Thomas Morstead commented on Twitter, "No matter where we go, #Saints fans are always so grateful when we stay out and sign or take pics.... Saints fans = best fans in the #NFL"

Ingram wrote, "I made it thru my first NFL training camp! God is good!  And big thanks to all the fans in Oxnard for being there and supporting us all week at practice!! #WHODAT"

The Saints were joined in training camp by another celebrity, this time by talk show how and Metairie, Louisiana native Ellen Degeneres, who wore an old-school leather football pad suit.
