Less than three hours after the scandal of Mickey Loomis' Superdome eavesdropping broke, the Saints countered the negative press by announcing the re-signing of veteran placekicker John Kasay.
Kasay, who was signed in late August last season when Garret Hartley's preseason hip injury sidelined him, will compete with Hartley for what would be his 21st NFL season.
Kasay hit 28 of 34 field goals last season and did not miss inside of 40 yards on 21 attempts and a team-record 63 extra points. He has kicked in 301 career regular season games and spent 15 years in Carolina.
With the Saints' record-setting offense in 2011, Kasay broke franchise records for points in a single season (147).
Kasay was originally drafted 98th overall in 1991 by the Seahawks.
