Saints third round pick DT Akiem Hicks is the first draft pick to sign of the team's 2012 draft class.
Hicks signed a four-year contract with the Saints today,
The 89th overall pick and the highest selection in the draft for the Saints, Hicks played two seasons for the University of Regina in Saskatchewan, Canada.
With LSU for one season in 2009, Hicks did not play and lost his scholarship in a minor recruiting scandal.
The 6'5", 325 pound rookie defensive tackle is expected to compete for rotation time behind starters Sedrick Ellis and Brodrick Bunkley. His competition will be returning veteran Remi Ayodele, fellow Canadian product Tom Johnson, second-year Swanson Miller and undrafted rookie Tyrunn Walker.
