Football returns tonight as the Saints and Cardinals open preseason in the NFL's annual Hall of Fame game.
The Saints were on hand to celebrate the induction of former Saint Willie Roaf yesterday in Canton, Ohio.
Transactions in the past week of training camp include signing street free agent DT Alex Daniels. The Saints cut DB Cord Parks to make room for Daniels on Tuesday, but then cut WR Chris Givens to re-sign Parks on Thursday.
The starting defensive depth chart released prior to the game game included three free agent additions in the starting lineup: DT Brodrick Bunkley, MLB Curtis Lofton and WLB David Hawthorne, and one more free agent signing starting on offense: LG Ben Grubbs.
Saints not expected on the field tonight because of injury include fourth round pick WR Nick Toon (foot), starting cornerbacks Jabari Greer (sports hernia surgery) and Patrick Robinson (shoulder).
Second-year Johnny Patrick and free agent addition Marquis Johnson are expected to start at cornerback tonight, with rookie late-round pick Corey White also seeing significant playing time.
Because of the NFL's current labor dispute with their referees, the game will be officiated by former Big 10 collegiate and Arena Football League referees.
