Special teamer and backup linebacker Will Herring has re-signed with the Saints, nine days after he was cut in a salary-slashing move to get the Saints underneath the cap.
With the re-signings of Courtney Roby, Ramon Humber and Herring, the Saints have secured the core of their kick coverage teams.
Playing mostly on special teams since 2011 for the Saints, Herring saved the Saints $1.6 million when he was released. If re-signed for the veteran minimum, Herring would make a base salary of $715,000 this season. That plus around $300,000 of dead money from his previous contract would be his total salary cap cost for 2013.
Herring never broke into the starting lineup as planned in 2011 when he was the first free agent signing for the team after the CBA delayed free agency into late July.
