The Hunt for GM is On

After 14 years in Pittsburgh, former Steelers head of football operations man is Tom Donahoe now one of the most wanted available General Manager prospects in the league.

New Miami head coach Dave Wannstedt has verbally said he wants Donahoe with the Dolphins. However, the Saints' only remaining football man, Charles Bailey worked with Donahoe up until last year when Bailey joined the Saints. Bailey and Donahoe are friends.

After Steelers coach Bill Cowher and Donahoe turned in their resignation papers after the last in a long string of disagreements. Simply put, the Steelers fired Donahoe and kept Cowher. Now Donahoe has four teams running after him, among others, New Orleans, Houston, Miami, and New England.

Donahoe, a Pittsburgh native, joined the Steelers in June of 1986 as a scout for the Eastern region of the country. He spent three years in that capacity before being named director of pro personnel and development in 1989. He was named director of football development in 1991 and director of football operations in 1992.

Donahoe is scheduled to talk to Benson this Tuesday, Janaury 18, 2000, in New York. He is also scheduled to talk to New England and Houston.
