All rookies, including those that will be officially announced in the next day or two, will report to minicamp this weekend. New Orleans Pro Football.com has learned the following about undrafted free agents:
LSU's Kenderick Allen, a 6'6", 318-pound defensive end/tackle, signed a rookie free agent contract with the Saints on Tuesday. A fifth-year senior and native of Bogalusa, LA, Allen was haunted by nagging injuries. Allen started 18 games for the Tigers, with three career sacks, two of them in one game as a sophomore.
The Saints have signed Tulane CB/KR Lynaris Elpheage. The speedy 5'9", 170 pound cornerback is a local hero.
According to the Rocky Mountain News, University of Colorado punter Mark Mariscal, the 2002 Ray Guy Award winner, and linebacker Kory Mossoni have signed with the Saints. 6'3", 225 pound Mossoni is an outside linebacker.
According to Tarheelblue.com, TE Zach Hilton (6'7", 275 pounds) has signed a rookie free agent contract with the Saints.
UL-Lafayette long snapper William Delahoussaye has signed a rookie free agent contract with the Saints.
Montana FB/TE Spencer Frederick has signed a contract with the Saints. Not technically a rookie, Frederick, 6'3", 250 pounds, graduated in 2001 but injured his right knee towards the end of that football season and spent the last year rehabbing. The injury, only to the meniscus which was surgically repaired, revealed a previous tear to his ACL, which was later also surgically repaired. Frederick received a two-year contract.
University of Central Florida tight end Mario Jackson signed with the Saints. The 6'2, 243 blocking tight end caught only seven passes as a senior.
Northern Iowa G/C Chad Setterstrom has signed with the Saints. The 6'3", 305 pound Minnesota native was a four-year starter at tackle for the Panthers and was a first team All-Gateway Conference team member as a senior.
Florida State product Marquis Horn is the third Seminole rookie, although his signing isn't of the customary type. At 5'11, 158 pounds, Horn wasn't on the football team but was a sprinter for the track and field squad.
Georgia Tech K Luke Manget was signed by the Saints. The Saints and all NFL teams traditionally carry two kickers and punters on the roster, although Manget is assured no chance of making the team.
Mississippi tight end Doug Zeigler, recovering from a broken leg, is apparently choosing between offers from the Saints and Browns.
Division III Mount Union college QB Rob Adamson was pursued by the Saints before signing with the San Diego Chargers.
Syracuse LB Clifton Smith chose the Redskins over an offer from the Saints.
NOPF has learned that the Saints had offers on the table to West Virginia DE/DT Jason Davis (6'5", 295) and LSU DE/DT Kenderick Allen (6'6", 300). Davis turned down the Saints' offer and signed with the Houston Texans, while Allen chose the Saints on Tuesday (see above).
Truman State University WR Alfonso Pugh drew interest from the Saints but signed with the Houston Texans. Similar story from Carroll College TE Casey Fitzsimmons, who instead signed with the Detroit Lions.
LSU WR Jerel Myers will join former LSU wideout Josh Reed in Buffalo as an undrafted free agent.
The Saints have apparently turned down proposals from NC State DT Terrance Martin and South Florida DT Greg Walls.
